X: Beyond the Frontier is a spaceship flight simulator. The action of the game takes place in the future in the year 2912. We play the role of Kyle Brennan, an earth test pilot who has the ability to travel from one part of the universe to another.


During the test flight, the wormhole breaks down and Brennan finds himself in an unknown part of space - the huge X universe, where we can become whoever we want - a merchant or a star pirate. We discover new places and alien races. One of them Kyle encounters while traveling is the Teladi race, which is capitalist and profit oriented. They help a lost Kyle repair the ship, lend him some money, and give him tips on trading in the X universe and on other races if he asks for them. We begin the adventure with trade, exploration and gaining experience. We make alliances, analyze political situations, using conflicts for our own purposes. We strive to build a great empire and gain popularity with aliens.
