The Golden Compass is a 2007 game, an adaptation of the film of the same name.

The game takes place in a parallel universe, where a person's soul takes the form of an animal called a daemon. The main character is Lyra Belacqua, who sets off on a dangerous expedition to save her friend Roger, kidnapped by the Gobblers, and to help her uncle, Lord Asriel, imprisoned for discovering evidence of the existence of mysterious Dust particles. The game world is ruled by the Magisterium - a dogmatic theocracy that brutally suppresses any opposition to its doctrines.

The gameplay is a classic action-adventure game with a third-person perspective. Lyra traverses various locations using her acrobatic abilities, and in the face of danger, she relies on her cunning, hiding or running away. If she is spotted, she can use collected items to get out of trouble. The health mechanic is presented as "courage", the appropriate level of which helps in solving puzzles. The game also includes mini-games.

Lyra is supported by two companions. The first is Pan, her daemon, who can take four forms: Stoat, which allows her to bite ropes and point out places of puzzles, Sloth, which allows her to swing on branches and reach hard-to-reach places, Hawk, thanks to which she can glide and bring items, Wild Cat, which allows her to slide down surfaces and climb.

The second companion is Iorek Byrnison - an armored bear with enormous physical strength. Iorek has his own health and armor bar, as well as a special fury meter, which, when charged, allows him to perform a powerful attack.

An important element of the game is the Golden Compass - Alethiometer. This device answers questions using a complex mechanism with four hands. To use the Alethiometer, Lyra must play the "Divining" mini-game, which involves matching symbols.

Throughout the game, heroes can collect items that unlock new abilities, such as additional daemon forms, slowing enemies, double damage, or a better understanding of the Alethiometer.
