Tales of the Unknown: Volume I - The Bard's Tale is a fantasy RPG with first-person exploration and turn-based combat against randomly appearing enemies.

The city of Skara Brae enjoyed a quiet life until an evil wizard known as Mangar the Dark appeared. Evil forces invaded the city and enslaved its inhabitants. The wizard Mangar cast the Eternal Winter spell on the city and the surrounding slopes, so Skara Brae cannot count on any outside help. Only a brave group of adventurers can save Sara Brae and defeat Mangar.

There are several character classes available in the game: Bard, Hunter, Monk, Paladin, Rogue, Warrior, and Mage. The bard class plays a special role, having magical chants that improve the team's performance in combat and are necessary to solve some puzzles.
