X-Men: Children of the Atom is a two-dimensional fight in which popular mutants appear, who are under the care of Professor Xavier. The plot of the production was based on the motives of the Fatal Attractions comic book - the main antagonist is Magneto, who plans to release an electromagnetic pulse on Earth by violating its magnetic field. Thanks to this, chaos will reign on the planet, and rebel mutants will take over the world.


This is the first title in which Capcom studio used heroes from the Marvel stable. As a result, the game features superheroes belonging to the eponymous X-Men group: Cyclops, Wolverine, Colossus, Iceman, Psylocke and Storm - as well as villains such as Silver Samurai, Sentinel, Omega Red and Juggernaut. Each character has characteristic attacks that reflect his powers. So Wolverine fights with the claws of Adamantium, Storm controls the weather, and Cyclops blows his enemies with his laser sight.


The game is based on a system known from the Street Fighter series of fighting games, so the player can perform standard attacks and blocks. Thanks to this, it loads the X-Ability or Hyper X belts allowing the use of special moves.
